Starter clutch wheels

I've just had another lot of starter clutches ground. These are the large gear with the starter clutch boss for the one-way clutch rollers.
They typically get damaged (brinnelled) on the CX650s if the starter is not powerful enough...
I supply these as an exchange item.
PM me if you need one.

Can you turn down the surface of the starter clutch boss on a similar gear Joe?

I'm actually asking for my CB900 which is similar in size & shape using the same starter rollers. (A very different spline though).

Mine has worn unevenly & my home tools aren't able to get the result.

Hi Doddsy,
It does depend on the dimensions and shape. Is it Part Number 28110-425-010 ?
That appears to be common to all Honda 4's of the era and should be easy to replace.
However, I can certainly get it ground or grind it myself, the time and or expense is in making the grinding arbor for it. The inside dimension is a lot smaller than the CX's. Making that arbor is only ever worthwhile if there was more than 5 or 6 of these wheels to grind. It would take at lease 4 hours to centre, turn, thread, grind, test etc. - all with high precision machine tools. It looks simple but is far from trivial....
Not sure where the spline on the 900 part is that you mention.....

Thanks mate.

Please bear with me for a few days.

I'd re-assembled it to see how well it worked & while better, it's still missing too often.

Thanks Joe.

My back yard knowledge has me calling every type of shaft a "spline", so please ignore that.

But thanks heaps for the explanation.

I see the issue & will take your advice on finding a replacement.

That is the right part number.
