My bike was overheating on both days at Cowra
There were signs of coolant on the outside of the motor
Today I ran it in the shed for well over an hour and no leaks, but the reason was evident, blown headgasket,a few bubbles in the header tank after about 20 min running and when the heat went up,after shutdown the water was not drawn back to the radiator indicating air in the top tank
So the heads need to come of
I am of the opinion that the coolant on the outside was a spill from when I toped the radiator up and it pooled somewhere

I wonder what Ozbob finds was the reason for his GL650 running at high temperature, too.  At least he did not appear to be losing coolant, but it was SO HIGH in temperature that I could smell it when he had passed me by about 20 metres.

Sure sounds like the 650's over working trying to keep up with the 500's.

Hey Buffo,

They forget to tell of "Old Red" two up, snapping at the heals of the 650's and Turbos though on the second half of the Sunday ride....... Had to handycap the 500 somehow to let them think they had it all there own way......

Mr Black the CX500 Euro was on your heals following Old Red on that ride and you had the wick turned way up no doubt about it!  By my recollection we passed the last 650 (Arty) by the time the twisties really set in... Guess there's nothing wrong with 8000rpm for a 500 'cause you aint goin to wear out the top end that easily!!'

That and 30 yo suspension and brakes make you wonder how it is you are going to stop shortly
Seriously Arty, at least head gaskets on one of these are easy.
Other machines can present serious challenges (ask any older V4 owner for example)

Now come on Paul I followed old red around Mac Park a few times we know she has an unfair advantage over other CX500's.

True her rider is   "silly" or something like that. Have to admitt it was fun .

CXRIDER82,

Did I really let the revs drop that low"Down to 8000 RPM's" That must of been the lack of concentration with Sarah kidney punching me to get a move on and blow a few 650's & Turbo's away during the ride.........

Willy mate,

I believe in giving the underdog a fair go...... A 500 against all the odd's is what I love best and is also the reason I don't own a turbo as it would all be too easy then and not enjoy giving them something to worry about when the serious stuff starts happening.....
